(COMPANY NAME) invites aspiring financial journalists with a passion for breaking news, a head for figures and the drive to deliver market-moving coverage against tight deadlines to apply for a limited number of summer internships at our london newsroom.

the interns, supervised by experienced reuters journalists, will be attached to markets and financial reporting teams in london for a period of up to 6 weeks and will be expected to hit the ground running.

the paid internships offer an immersion course in business reporting at the world's leading financial news brand as the biggest economic story in more than half a century unfolds.

we are looking for reporting talents with a genuine enthusiasm for financial news, strong news instincts and the ability to learn quickly about a range of topics from balance sheets to bond markets.

how many interns do we take and what do they do?

up to a dozen shortlisted applicants will be invited to take part in interviews and a half-day assessment event, competing for up to four internships.

after three days of classroom training and orientation, each of the interns will spend the full attachment period with one financial reporting team to give them an opportunity to make an effective contribution to reuters news output. the london interns are placed with teams covering financial markets and corporate news across a range of media.

how do i apply?

applicants for the london internships should send an email letter of up to 600 words, attaching their cv and at least one item from the following list:

* a clip of your journalism, published in print or online, whether student journalism or freelance work accepted for publication, as a full pdf scan or screen grab, with authorship clearly shown. the clip should represent a candidate's best journalistic work to date
* a written, signed reference from a working journalist (preferably a senior editor) or finance professional (e.g. brokerage analyst) with direct knowledge of the candidate's work, of up to 500 words
* a summary or representative scan(s) of a dissertation, type-written essay, research work or scholarship displaying financial knowledge or economics expertise of particular relevance to financial news coverage. the candidate's authorship should be clearly shown, with any academic evaluation attached.  what else should you know? 
* interns participate in an intensive three-day training course before beginning work
* our interns are assigned mentors on their host teams and are supervised by a senior financial reporter
* the financial journalism interns contribute to the news file from the outset and are expected to deliver initiative coverage during their assignment
* a reuters financial journalism internship offers aspiring reporters an audience of financial professionals, policy makers and leading media outlets
* interns who excel in the role may be considered for other opportunities at reuters news, including a nine-month trainee journalism programme or junior reporting roles

Candidate Requirements:

* Students of journalism, economics, business or languages in their final year,  or recent graduates of those disciplines
* A strong academic record at degree or masters level
* Proven passion for journalism with evidence of relevant work experience
* Demonstrable interest in financial news and grasp of key economic trends
* Excellent writing skills and communications skills 
* Fluency in more than one language is welcome, as Reuters is a global company. Arabic, Russian or Mandarin are an advantage
* Willingness to compete for internship places through writing tests and a group selection event
* Can commit to spending at least 4 weeks at Reuters in July/August 2010
* Must have existing permission to work in the UK
